Green Shoes – shoemakers

Winner of the 2018 HCA/Marsh Made in Britain Award

Alex Langlands, Alison Hastie and Nick CarterGreen Shoes are this year’s winners of the Made in Britain Award. The company was started in 1981 in Totnes, Devon by a group of young women who were passionate about hand making strong and beautiful shoes that would last for years.

Ethical production remains at the heart of the business philosophy, with everything hand made from the finest materials in Green Shoes’ workshop on Dartmoor. They buy their leather from leather factories in the North of England and soling material also comes from UK suppliers as well as the furniture required to complete a shoe.

Green Shoes have recently been listed in the top 15 shoemakers in the world for its ethical standards. They are currently training two apprentices, one of whom has been awarded QEST funding.
